About
Imperfect English

Imperfect English takes inspiration from the Latin root of the English word "imperfect"—imperfectus—which means not flawed or deficient, but rather incomplete. This sense of something being not quite yet finished is a valuable reminder for all learners that foreign language acquisition is best enjoyed as a process, rather than as a goal. In fact, native speakers of all languages produce imperfect language on a daily basis, which should be both a comfort and an educational opportunity for all ESL learners.

Sydney, the founder of Imperfect English, was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned her master's degree in French literature and wrote her thesis on André Malraux's concept of the Imaginary Museum and its implications in the world of today's music. Having learned her first foreign language at the age of 6, she is now dedicated to paying it forward and helping her students celebrate ESL for the imperfect process that it invariably is. She is also a conservatory-trained musician, an avid reader, and she loves to cook.
